Project Samskriti

Isha's initiative for India's classical arts: music, dance and Kalaripayattu, kept alive the way they were always practised, as an offering and as a way inward.

The Initiative

What Project Samskriti is

Classical arts as heritage, and as a source of spiritual inspiration.
How Isha describes the aim of Project Samskriti, in our words

Sadhguru launched Project Samskriti on a Guru Purnima to preserve India's classical arts and pass them on. It teaches Indian classical music, classical dance and Kalaripayattu, the martial art of Kerala, through workshops, online classes and performances.

In India these arts were never only entertainment. They grew out of devotion and were practised as an offering, refined over centuries to bring balance to the body, the mind and the emotions. Project Samskriti keeps that spirit at the centre: the aim is not only skill but a deeper experience of life.

The School

Samskriti, Sadhguru Gurukulam

“The most important work on the planet is to raise human consciousness.”Sadhguru, on Samskriti · source

Samskriti is a residential school at the Isha Yoga Center, at the foot of the Velliangiri Mountains near Coimbatore. Children join at seven or eight and stay until eighteen.

Instead of filling them with information, the school helps each child find what they are capable of. They train every day in yoga, Bharatanatyam, Indian classical music and Kalaripayattu, and study Sanskrit, English and mathematics alongside.

The teachers who lead the classical arts at Dhee Yogalayam trained at Samskriti.
